Quick scorecard on Eagles’ late round picks and UDFA’s…

I’ll make this quick because the Pizza Man will appear here around noon on Sunday to try to sell you tickets. After his delivery, we can get more deeply into the new players acquired by the Birds.

Chip Kelly dropped out of the 4th round. The Eagles were scheduled to pick at No. 113 overall but they traded the selection to Detroit for the Lions’ 2016 third round pick.

I have no comment on that. Are we that stocked on talent that we can blow off the 4th Round? Is it possible that the Chippah is so confident in his staying power as a winning head coach in Philly that he can now afford to stockpile future picks?

It befuddled me—

Anyway, we had no picks left in the 5th Round, as Kelly had traded both of them away to Miami in order to move up for CB/S Eric Rowe.

That was fine with me. Rowe could be the steal of the Draft.

We got an extra 6th round pick from Miami in the Rowe deal, so Kelly used the two picks in the 6th to select two cornerbacks: JaCorey Shepherd of Kansas, and Randall Evans of Kansas State.

The Eagles’ sixth and final pick came in the seventh round when they selected Boston College defensive end Brian Mihalik (6-9, 295 pounds).

So here’s the total draft haul:

1 (20) – Nelson Agholor, WR, USC
2 (47) – Eric Rowe, DB, Utah
3 (84) – Jordan Hicks, LB, Texas
6 (191) – JaCorey Shepherd, CB, Kansas
6 (196) – Randall Evans, CB, Kansas State
7 (237) – Brian Mihalik, DE, Boston College

In addition, the Eagles have already signed the following undrafted free agent rookies:

WR John Harris

TE Justin Tukes

Most of these UDFA’s got a $5,000 to $7,500 signing bonus, so they will have something to show for the effort they will invest in fighting an uphill battle in training camp this summer.

See you after the Pizza Man rings twice…

P.S. —  Only two guys— DON PARDO and AFRA — picked up late-round hits on Randall Evans in their MACH 10 ballots.  This makes for an interesting final MACH 10 tally. There are a bunch of cats tied with two hits each— bring out the time-stamp reader if you’re a traditional MACH 10 fan. We’ll have the final decision for you in the next post-pizza blurger…
