Silva and Price were together one day when they spotted a bike and luggage someone had put out with the trash. They stopped. The bike was salvageable. They opened a box and found a DVD player. They opened a suitcase and found a PlayStation 2.
The DVD player brought $200, the PlayStation $40, the bike $25. They took the luggage to a pawnshop whose owner wasn’t interested.
“We’re walking out and some guy goes, ‘Hey, you want to get rid of that?’ ” Silva recalled. “He gave us 15 bucks.”
