NY Times on Caldwell

Tip to Kuharsky, here’s a nice story on the guy who got his first win yesterday

As an assistant head coach for four seasons under Tony Dungy, Caldwell said, he seldom, if ever, received messages before a game. On the eve of his N.F.L. head-coaching debut against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Caldwell said, he received “quite a few more.”

“I received about 25 scriptures from friends and family on my cellphone,” he said.

He even received a call from a pastor in Florida who read a biblical passage about the wisdom of taking advantage of opportunities. In Caldwell’s case, it was his first opportunity as an N.F.L. head coach. “My phone was buzzing all morning,” he said. “From early in the morning until kickoff.”
