The last five Reds GMs

Going back to Bob Quinn

That season’s success proved to be unrepeatable in 1991. Additionally, Piniella’s hot-tempered managing eventually wore thin with the team, particularly for emotional players like Rob Dibble and Paul O’Neill.  Still, Quinn successfully upgraded his roster prior to 1992 by adding outfielder Bip Roberts and starting pitchers Greg Swindell and Tim Belcher.  The team responded with a 90-win season, finishing in second place behind the nascent Braves dynasty.  That wasn’t good enough for Marge Schott.  Quinn took the high road by saying little after his firing, but the rest of baseball pulled no punches in their criticism of Schott.  Said Twins’ GM Andy MacPhail, “He was executive of the year, for crissakes. I’m glad [Schott] doesn’t own the Twins. You can use that. I don’t care what she thinks.”
