Oehser recaps a special game

*Speaking of Wayne, I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks the whole idea of him being shut down by Jets CB Darrell Revis is being a bit overblown. The Colts obviously emphasized Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, as evidence by their 18 receptions for 274 yards, but Wayne’s three receptions went for 55 yards — an 18.3-yard average. The Colts may have found it easier going away from Wayne, but when they went to him, he was effective. “I am tired of hearing that we threw away from Revis,” Colts QB Peyton Manning said. “We didn’t throw away from Revis. When we threw Reggie to Revis we had some pretty huge plays.”

* There wasn’t as much talk after Sunday’s game about the decision to pull starters late in the season as you might expect. And as you might expect, even after they made the Super Bowl, there was little talk from the Colts about vindication for not pursuing a 16-0 regular season. For all the criticsm leveled toward Coach Head Coach Jim Caldwell and President Bill Polian, each said throughout the last month that the issue was simply about putting the Colts in the best position to make the Super Bowl. “I really tried not to focus on anything of that nature,” Caldwell said. “All we are concerned about is trying to do the best job for our team. Plain and simple and not everyone is going to agree.”

* Remember how the Colts kept saying all week and throughout the latter part of the season how they liked what they were doing in the running game a lot more than their league ranking of 32nd would lead one to expect? The Colts on Sunday rushed for 101 yards on 24 carries, with running back Joseph Addai rushing for 80 yards on 16 carries. The Jets, the NFL’s No. 1-ranked rushing offense, rushed for 86 yards on 29 carries.
