It was a relief when Ronald Jr. settled on Western Kentucky. However, when Western Kentucky coach Darrin Horn left for South Carolina, Nored felt betrayed, his grandmother said. He was released from his commitment.
Nored’s mother was worried that no suitors would come calling for her son, but about 20 schools did. Butler was among them. Coach Brad Stevens had been in Birmingham just weeks before for NCAA Tournament games, and he soon headed back.
“Brad, praise God, drove on a Saturday to Birmingham to get Ronald,” Kennedy-Williams said.
She might not have counted on having so many adopted grandchildren. Nored regularly calls the house to see if he can bring five or six teammates for breakfast, and grandma swings into action.
