Young Given Permission to Interview With As

While there is no official news in Theo Watch, the Red Sox did announce that they have given Curt Young permission to interview with the Oakland Athletics for their pitching coach job.  Young was their pitching coach for 7 years before shipping up to Boston in 2010 to join our staff.  The A’s have fired their pitching coach and are looking to possibly have Young return.  Young is still under contract for one more year.  The Sox are looking for a new manager and GM, so his job is not very secure anyways since a new manager often wants to bring his own coaches with him.  And, well…with the pitching issues with had this year, his job was probably pretty insecure anyways.

If the A’s want Young back, I say you can have him.  Don’t get me wrong, I think he is a tremendous pitching coach, but I don’t think he was the right fit for Boston.  Hearing Clay remark on the differences between the two was pretty telling yesterday.  I think the pitching arms need a more intense presence like Farrell was.
