Wakefield Set to Take the Hill

The player with the longest tenure on the team will be on the mound tonignt as the Red Sox make their first road trip of the year to Kansas City.  Tim Wakefield is now 43 and coming off of surgery this winter.  He had a very solid spring and is looking to regain the form that earned him a trip to his first All-Star Game last season.  Victor Martinez should be catching Wake tonight and Tito has no worries:

“My first few years here, that was obviously a panic issue,” said Francona. “When we start putting Mirabelli in limos, it’s a tough situation. I thought Victor came in and seamlessly took that over.

Wakefield has a career record of 7-4 at Kaufmann Stadium with an ERA of 3.54.  Many new players on the Royals have not seen Wake and Jason Kendall has some advice for them.

“You’ve just got to wait. Like playing Wiffleball in your backyard when you’re in the sixth grade,” he said. “You just can’t jab at it, you’ve got to get where you think it’s going to be and hope you get a good part of the bat on it.

It will be great to see if Wakefield is all the way back from his injury and can play pain free again.  Things get underway at 8:10 PM EST.
