Oehser picks on an issue that has bugged me for days
The confusing part of this premise is that it seems to imply that if the Colts hadn’t beaten the Jets that day, they would be somehow guaranteed the Super Bowl. Silly.
The Colts had to play someone Sunday. If it hadn’t been the Jets, it would be the Chargers, and those same fans and media types who believe the Colts put themselves in a negative situation by allowing the Colts to make the playoffs would be focused on how the Chargers have knocked the Colts from the playoffs each of the last two seasons.
The Colts had to play someone Sunday, and no matter the opponent, fans and media would find something about which to gnash teeth. Fact is, while the Colts absolutely respect the Jets and while the Jets are a good team, any team in the conference title game is a good team, and the Jets in fact – their status as the hot, media-darling team aside – still are a team that is relatively one-dimensional and that on paper is a good match-up for the Colts.
Exactly. One guy said on Monday, “The Colts could have taken care of all this weeks ago!” As if the Colts had beat the Jets, they wouldn’t have to play this weekend. THEY’D RATHER PLAY THE JETS. THEY SUCK.
