Twins Walk Off On Sox in Series Opener

<![CDATA[The Sox switched Doubront and Peavy around in hopes of having a better matchup in the upcoming series against the Tigers, however having Peavy on the mound last night didn't have the desired effect as he struggled and couldn't make it out of the 5th inning. The Sox tied it up in the later innings, but the Twins rallied in the 9th and walked off to the win.

The Sox got on the scoreboard first when David Ortiz hit a solo HR against his former team in the first inning. Sox 1-0. That lead didn't hang around for long though as Peavy really struggled in the 2nd inning. Nunez hit a 2 run HR to put the Twins in front, Dozier hit a 2 RBI double and then the inning was capped off when Joe Mauer hit an RBI single. Sox 1-5. In the 4th inning David Ortiz came to the plate and hit another solo HR to help the Sox start climbing back. Sox 2-5. Unfortunately Jake Peavy would give that run right back in the top of the 5th when he gave up an RBI single to Suzuki. Sox 2-6. Peavy was done for the night and Chris Capuano was in to finish off the inning.

Capuano stopped the bleeding and got the two outs to get out of the inning. David Ortiz came to the plate in the top of the 6th and while he didn't get a HR, he did get an RBI. Papi hit an RBI single to have the Sox within 3 runs. Sox 3-6. Cap also pitched a scoreless 6th inning before the Sox offense got back to work. In the top of the 7th the Sox bats got all over the Twins relief pitching. Victorino hit an RBI single followed by an RBI single from Ortiz. That last RBI meant that David Ortiz had 4 RBI in the game all by himself. Papi sure loves hitting in Twins territory. Sox 5-6. The game ended up getting all tied up when Twins pitching walked Jonny Gomes to walk in the tying run. Sox 6-6. Craig Breslow pitched a scoreless 7th inning and Tazawa pitched a scoreless 8th inning. With the game tied the Sox went with Andrew Miller in the 9th inning. This season Miller has been one of the most reliable relievers for the Sox, but last night he wouldn't be able to get the job done. Miller got 2 Ks, but was unable to put the Twins away. Miller gave up a single to Suzuki and then gave up the game ending walk off 2 run HR to Parmelee. The Sox battled hard, but in the end it would be the Twins who had the last rally on their way to the series win.
