TSN talks to Freeney

Tip to Dave, 93 speaks

SN: How does this defense compare with the Super Bowl defense of 2006?
Freeney: Definitely better — way better. That year, we struggled defensively throughout the regular season. But what we did in the playoffs was amazing. We had the one game against the Patriots (a 38-34 AFC Championship Game win) that was high-scoring; that was a battle. Other than that, we dominated Kansas City (23-8) and the Ravens (15-6) — but no one mentions that. I guess it’s OK as long as you win the Super Bowl.

SN: That defense played extremely well in the Super Bowl vs. the Bears, allowing only one offensive touchdown and icing the game with a pick-six in a 29-17 win. Did your side of the ball get enough credit?
Freeney: Uh … (laughs). But seriously, there was only that one run by (Thomas) Jones, and after that there was nothing else to talk about — they had nothing else going on. Do I think that was highlighted? No. It was Peyton Manning’s first Super Bowl. Unbelievable player, all-time great, all the things he’d done to that point — it was understandable. It was about his legacy.
