So you just signed with the Boston Celtics and you've got to get acclimated to the system as soon as possible. You're a multi-millionaire athlete (he's made $50-plus million for his career). So your preferred choice of transportation to Boston is…. your own car?
Some players are strictly jet-setters. But Troy Murphy, who expects to clear waivers at 2 p.m. tomorrow, has decided to pack up and actually drive from his home in New Jersey to Boston.
The drive will also give the 6-foot-11 power forward/center a chance to relax and contemplate one of the toughest choices of his career, deciding to join the Celtics instead of the Heat.
“It was a tough choice,” he said tonight. “Both are great franchises that do things the right way. But I have always followed the Celtics, and I had hoped to get picked by them (in 2001). But Joe Johnson (at No. 10) was a great pick, and I guess they were going with potential when they took (Kedrick Brown at No. 11).”
I know… I know… the drive is only a few hours anyway. He'll be in Boston before he clears waivers. Really, I've just never heard of a player driving himself to a new team. And I got an excuse to to do a goofy photoshop.
Man, Troy Murphy's photoshop wife from that stock photo really seems happy to be driving to Boston.
