CBS SPORTS KICKS OFF CBS COLLEGE SPORTS NETWORK’S COVERAGE OF “THE ALT GAMES” WITH NETWORK BROADCAST ON SATURDAY, MAY 16

One-Hour Special on CBS Sports Highlighted by Beach Volleyball, Flowboarding, Wakeboarding, Snowboarding, Freeskiing and Competitive Eating Launches Four Weeks of Programming on CBS College Sports Network

The Alt Games (formerly The Collegiate Nationals), an event showcasing numerous collegiate championships, returns for a fourth consecutive year as coverage kicks-off with a special one-hour CBS Sports Spectacular, The Alt Games: College Action Sports Championships, airing on CBS Sports on Saturday, May 16 (2:00-3:00 PM, ET; taped). Saturday’s show features the most compelling action from the 2009 Alt Games highlighting top performances from 11 college championships. The CBS Sports show launches four weeks of programming on CBS College Sports Network, beginning on Sunday, May 17 (5:00 PM, ET).

Coverage of the 2009 Alt Games includes snowboarding, wakeboarding, flowboarding, beach volleyball, freeskiing and competitive eating. Nineteen ninety-eight Winter Olympic gold medalist in freestyle skiing Jonny Moseley, along with entertainment reporter Adrianna Costa, host the coverage for CBS Sports and CBS College Sports Network.

Two new locations, Copper Mountain, Colo., where snowboarding and freeskiing occurred, and Riverside, Calif., where the beach volleyball competition took place, were added to this year’s event. Previous years’ host city San Diego, Calif. held competitions for flowboarding, wakeboarding and competitive eating. More than 500 competitors from 45 different colleges and universities nationwide competed at the 2009 Alt Games, which crown 11 national men’s and women’s champions in both individual and team events.

CBS College Sports Network also returns the popular reality program “GO PRO OR GO HOME,” which will air as a two-part series that brings viewers on-the-sand and behind-the-scenes during a special AVP Invitational Elite Camp/Combine held in Hermosa Beach, Calif. for 16 of the nation’s top graduating senior collegiate women’s volleyball players. The combine concludes with a round robin tournament that awards the winning team a main draw berth at the AVP Riverside Open in Riverside, Calif. “GO PRO OR GO HOME” documents the emotion and excitement of the winning team, leading up to and during their AVP Tour debut.

The competitions were taped in Copper Mountain (4/9); San Diego (4/17-19) and Riverside (4/18). CBS College Sports Network’s Billy Stone is the coordinating producer of The Alt Games. For full programming information, in addition to a list of competitors and participating schools, log on to www.thealtgames.com.
