You’ve got a job. Maybe kids. Maybe school. And 1,000 other things to worry about – it’s hard keeping up with all the stories coming from practice baseball camp in Florida.
We’re here to help. Let’s take a look at the news that made news this past week that was in Cardinals spring training.
Story: Actual games, yo!
#HOTTake: As of Monday, the Cardinals have started out 3-1 in their exhibition schedule. The Birds have beaten the Marlins twice and the Astros once. Their most formidable competition – the Nationals – got to the Cardinals late and took down a 6-5 win. It’s a totally meaningless game, yet somehow, it feels like the Nats and Cards are on a collision course for the NL title. This is NOT a harbinger of future success. Or maybe it is.
Story: Lance Lynn is hurt.
#HOTTake: Lynn left in the 2nd inning of Sunday’s game with what is being called a hip-flexor strain. He’s being re-evaluated later today and you should be able to readily get a full report about the time he’ll miss by the time you read this. According to the always reputable Livestrong.com, rest is key. If we had to put a guess on it at this point, Lynn will probably miss his next two to three turns in the spring rotation.
Story: Colby has at least a few regrets.
#HOTTake: Colby Rasmus is destined to be a generations ‘what if’ player for Cardinals fans. He’s in Houston now, getting paid handsomely to ride out a season, play some ball and try to figure out what he wants to do in 2016. Pretty much a re-run of this past season where he toiled on a sub-par Blue Jays team and tried to figure out what to do in 2015. He admits that his relationship with TLR could have been better, but doesn’t seem to consumed with winning the way the Cardinals are.
Story: Tommy Pham is this year’s player to watch.
#HOTTake: Finally healthy and with an obvious opening on the MLB roster (Shane Robinson’s 5th OF spot) – Pham has come out of the gates gunning to make the initial 25-man roster. Holliday, Jay, Heyward and Bourjos are all locked in. So that last spot is between Pham and Randal Grichuk – who, by the way, has already belted 2 HRs. Get your popcorn ready.
