The Islanders are in third place in the Metro, which is the kind of position a team needs to be in to avoid much notice from the media or general hockey blogs. As it turns out, the Islanders are setting a blistering pace right now, with 11 wins in their last 14 games, putting them 3 points behind the Rangers for 2nd, with a 5 point buffer and 2 games in hand over the Penguins, who they defeated on Tuesday night.
Unfortunately, that buffer may be necessary. The Isles lost goalie Jaroslav Halak to an injury late in the game tonight. The Canadiens will be happy to tell you how bad an injury to your netminder can be. The Islanders hope they can survive 18 games if Halak is out for any length of time.
SCOREBOARD
New York Rangers 4, Buffalo 2 – The Islanders can win all they want. The Rangers will just keep doing the same.
Carolina 4, Ottawa 3 (SO) – The Hurricanes are only 4 points from a playoff spot,, and they just passed Ottawa to get there.
New York Islanders 2, Pittsburgh 1 – Slick black unis for the Islanders last night.
Columbus 5, Detroit 3 – The Blue Jackets beating the Red Wings is never not funny.
Montreal 4, Dallas 3 (OT) – I think this score is leftover from October.
Boston 1, Tampa Bay 0 (OT) – Playoff atmosphere.
Nashville 4, Winnipeg 2 – I don’t think the Jets ever thought their season would end quite like this.
San Jose 3, Edmonton 0 – The funny thing is that the Sharks could still totally win the Pacific.
