The Hefty Bag Lives Another Day

The Hefty Bag Lives Another DayThe Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome is not dead yet.  The Twinkies will host the one game playoff to determine the A.L. Central but because Monday Night Football is already scheduled to take place, the game will have to be moved to Tuesday.  If the Yankees pick the longer series, which they will, they get the winner of the Tigers/Twins game coming off of no rest.

I have been to the Metrodome twice  The first time was a beautiful August day in 2000 and I had to go indoors to watch baseball; something that should never happen.  Luckily for me, they were honoring Kirby Puckett that day so I got to witness one of the Twins all-time greats make one of his last appearances in the Metrodome.  The second was for the NCAA basketball tournament, where I had a seat so far away from the court that I might has well have been at a different regional final. I can’t say I am sad to see the end of an era for a crappy indoor stadium but they do have a slight bit of nostalgia on their side in this match-up.

One-game baseball playoffs always bring excitement and Tuesday’s game should be no exception.  It won’t be Red Sox/Yankees ’78 but it will be the only baseball game on Tuesday and everybody will be watching.  When you mix in the final season in the Metrodome it adds to the excitement of the night.
