The Good, The Bad, The Ugly of The New York Series

-8

A split in a 4 game series on the road is what it is.

You’re exactly where you were before you arrived, but 4 games later in the season – the baseball equivalent of pounding the running back into the line early in the game to tire the defensive out and hopefully generate a breakthrough later in the game.

The Mets weren’t expected to be good. But they stand at 24-18 through 1/4 of the season. So they’re pretty good. We saw some good things, too:

But we also saw some bad things, including a ‘let’s get the hell out of town’ game Thursday afternoon that lasted all of 2 hours and 26 minutes.

THE GOOD:

  • Jaime Garcia going 7 innings and giving up only 2 runs? 20 more of those please.
  • 19 runs in the middle 2 games? This isn’t Coors Field. This team is capable of producing offense.
  • Mike Wacha is now 6-0 with a 2.13 ERA and 31 strikeouts.
  • Matt Holliday might be the most under-appreciated Cardinals player of the past 2 decades.

THE BAD:

  • The Cardinals are 5-5 in the last 10 games. The Cubs are 8-2. The NL Central lead is down to 3.5 games over the small bears.
  • Thursday’s game marked the 15th time in 40 games played that Jason Heyward didn’t get a hit.

THE UGLY:

  • Randol Doyle Choate. (Yes, that’s the proper spelling.)
