Does it feel like Red Sox vs Yankees comes on about every other Sunday night during the MLB season?
Turns out that you’re not that far off.
This article over at Baseball Central took a look at the the last decade of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball and broke down – with science! – who was playing who.
Some Cardinals related stats?
The Cardinals have played in 41 Sunday Night Baseball games the last 10 seasons. That’s 3rd behind… wait for it… the Yankees (51) and Red Sox (47). To put those numbers in perspective, neither the Mariners or Blue Jays have played even a single SNB game in the same time span.
16 of those 41 games have been played in Busch Stadium.
The Cardinals have played the Cubs in 13 of those 41 games, meaning Cards/Cubs represents 5.2% of the total matchups the past decade. Second behind the Sox/Yanks at 31 games or 12.5% of the matchups.
The Cardinals and the Cubs will open the 2015 SNB slate with a match-up from Wrigley Field on Sunday April 5th.
Head over to the post for the full breakdown.
But if you’ve ever wondered to yourself ‘are the Yankees and Sox really on SNB again?’ – the answer is probably ‘yes’.
