The All Vin Scully Team Includes 3 Cardinals

The Cardinals have finished their season series with the Dodgers (posting a winning 5-2 record) which is nice.

On the other hand… no more Vin Scully unless the Cards meet Los Angeles in the playoffs. Which is not so nice.

Rick Hummel of the Post-Dispatch caught up with Mr. Scully and asked him if he’d sketch out his all time team (non-Dodgers) and because Mr. Scully is amazing, he just went ahead and knocked out this project like he’d been waiting for someone to ask.

3 Cardinals made the list: Gibson, Musial and Sutter. About Gibson:

“We worked together on radio broadcasting the playoffs one year and Chris Speier was a rookie shortstop with the San Francisco Giants with Gaylord Perry pitching. It got to a tight spot and Speier came in to talk to Perry. And I said to Gibby, ‘What could a freshman shortstop have to say to a veteran like Gaylord Perry in this spot?’

“Gibby said, ‘Nothing.’

“I said, ‘What would you do if a rookie shortstop came to the mound to talk to you?’ He said, ‘I wouldn’t allow it.’

“That stuck to my ribs ever since,” said Scully, laughing.

The whole story is worth the read and proves one again why Vin Scully is a legend.
