The Blues have a few talented rookies on the roster this season and all of them are off to promising starts. Robby Fabbri’s injury appears to be mostly just a minor setback, but prior to going down he was looking pretty comfortable on an important scoring line. Colton Parayko has arguably been the team’s best defenseman through the early going and while Joel Edmundson hasn’t been at quite the same level as Parayko, he hasn’t been bad.
Blues fans have noticed the rookies, but now other media outlets are catching on as well.
Sportsnet ranked all of the NHL teams based on their rookies and the Blues checked in at the sixth spot. Below is their brief description justifying the ranking:
Alberta’s Colton Parayko, 22, is off to such a smooth start (three points, plus-3) he may be on his way to playing veteran Carl Gunnarsson out of a job on one of the NHL’s best blue lines. That Robbi Fabbri looks a like a player, too.
Parayko has been dynamic on defense and his shot is quickly developing its own mythos after he broke the glass with a hard shot. The Fabbri experiment is still in its infancy, but the early returns are pretty exciting.
All in all, the youth movement on the Blues is very real and while things might evolve or change as the year progresses, all three rookies could play a serious role this season.
