Sox Win One for the Home Town!

The Red Sox took the field with the whole city of Boston in their hearts in wake of the Marathon tragedy.  In the Sox dugout hung a jersey which said "Boston Strong" and had the number 617 on it, which is the main area code for Boston.  The players then took the field and gave us a great win to cheer for!

Felix Doubront took the mound and got himself a big lead early.  In the 2nd inning, Ubaldo Jimenez just completed unraveled.  With the bases loaded, Jimenez walked Ross to give the Sox their first run.  Then Ciriaco hit a sac fly to score Middlebrooks.  Sox 2-0.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single and with the bases loaded again, Jimenez walked in another run.  Sox 4-0.  Tito had seen enough and pulled Jimenez from the game.  Allen came into the game in relief and gave up a bases clearing double to Mike Napoli to give the Sox a 7-0 lead.  Napoli came to the plate twice in that inning and hit a double both times.

Doubront had a long wait while his team gave him such a huge lead.  In the bottom of the 2nd, Dubi gave up a run by a sac fly to former Sox Mike Aviles.  Sox 7-1.  In the bottom of the 5th, Doubront gave up a second run when he threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded.  Sox 7-2.  Doubront was done after 5 innings.  He continued his trend of having a high pitch count through 5 innings.  His line for the night was 104 pitches, 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 4 BB and 7 Ks.  Clayton Mortensen came on in relief and pitched two scoreless innings before turning it over to rookie Alex Wilson.  Wilson also pitched two scoreless innings to put the game to bed for the Sox.

The Water was Dirty…and something wonderful for the City of Boston to see and cheer for!  The Sox have now won 4 games in a row and are 5 games over 500.
