The Sox came into the rubber game of the series with the Dodgers with Jake Peavy on the mound. Peavy was the perfect guy to be on the mound since he came in 13-2 against the team. Peavy continued to deal and with a good deal of run support grabbed himself and the team a win.
The Sox got on the scoreboard early and then often. The Red Sox scored a single run in the first inning when Napoli hit a ground rule double to score Victorino. The Sox had the bases loaded with one out, but the Dodgers got out of the inning without any more damage when Middlebrooks hit into an inning ending double play. The Sox grabbed another run in the 3rd when Pedey hit an RBI sac fly to score Ells. Sox 2-0. In the 4th, Xandar Bogaerts got his first major league RBI when he hit a double to score Middlebrooks. Sox 3-0. All the same time, Peavy just kept cruising along. The only hiccup he had was in the bottom of the 4th when he gave up a solo HR to former Sox Adrian Gonzalez.
The Sox offense kept at it in the 6th when Salty hit a 2 run HR to left to bring them to a 5-1 lead. Victorino joined the HR party in the 7th when he hit a solo HR of his own. The Dodger fans have been booing him all series long, so I am sure he enjoyed that HR trot even more. Sox 6-1. In the 9th inning, Mike Napoli hit a towering 2 run HR to have the Sox leading 8-1. Napoli hasn't had the best month, but in the last few games he sure seems to be breaking out of his hitting slump. Peavy came back out for the 9th inning and got the 3 outs for his first complete game in a Sox uniform. Peavy's pitching line for the night was 111 pitches, 9 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB and 5 Ks.
It was a great way to end the west coast road trip, especially since the Rays lost earlier in the day, so the Sox once again are alone atop the AL East.
Red Sox 8 Dodgers 1 BOXSCORE
WP: Peavy (10-5) LP: Capuano (4-7)
