Clay Buchholz took the mound for the Sox yesterday afternoon in hopes of grabbing another win and going to 7-0. Clay pitched well, but unfortunately got no run support from the Sox bats. The Sox wouldn't be able to win the game, but at least for Clay he got enough runs to get a no decision out of the deal instead of a loss.
Buchholz and Beuhrle battled in the early innings and while the Sox bats got all over Beuhrle last time we faced him, this time he seemed locked in. Buchholz gave up a single run in the 3rd inning with an RBI single to Cabrera and then another run in the 4th with an RBI single to Rasmus. Sox 0-2. Clay kept on pitching though. He pitched through the 8th inning and once again looked dominant. The issue was that Buehrle was dominating as well. Clay's pitching line for the night was 101 pitches, 8 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 3 BB and 4 Ks.
The Sox bats finally showed some signs of life in the bottom of the 8th. Beuhrle issued a leadoff walk and he was out of the game. Oliver was in the game and gave up an RBI triple to Ellsbury to put the Sox on the scoreboard for the first time. Then Ells scored when Pedroia reached by error. Game tied 2-2. Tazawa came into the game in the 9th and while it wasn't a save situation, it was definitely a high pressure 9th inning situation. Taz had his first hiccup as the new Sox closer. Taz gave up a leadoff homerun to Lind to give the Jays a 3-2 lead. The Jays closer Janssen came into the game and he gave up a leadoff double to Middlebrooks, the Sox bats weren't able to get him to cross the plate.
The Sox lost and are no longer a top the AL East. The Yankees won and the O's lost, so the Yanks are leading the AL East and the Sox and O's are tied for 2nd.
Red Sox 2 Blue Jays 3 BOXSCORE
