Sox Lose In Extras To Os Again

The Sox lost in extras to the O’s again at Fenway.  This time it didn’t take 17 innings, however it was still a loss.  The game started with Lester taking the mound.  He left in the 7th still in line for a win, however it would turn into a no decision in no time.

Lester didn’t pitch a gem, however he pitched well enough.  The O’s got on the board in the 3rd after a throwing error from Aviles.  Jones and Wieters both hit singles and the O’s were leading 2-0.  The Sox tied the game in the 5th when the O’s made some errors of their own.  Podsednik hit a sac bunt to score Nava and then Pedey hit a sac fly to score Aviles.  Sox 2-2.  Lester gave the lead back in the 6th when Pearce hit a sac fly to score Wieters.  Sox 2-3.  In the 6th, the Sox snagged their first and only lead of the game.  The Sox tied the game with an Aviles single and then took the lead with a Podsednik sac fly.  Sox 4-3.  Lester took the mound in the 7th and gave up a hit to Chavez.  Lester had only thrown 99 pitches and Bobby V came out to get him.  Lester was clearly not happy about this.  In a few batters, he would really not be happy about this.  Atchison came out in relief and for the most time in forever…he did not have a crisp outing.  Atchison allowed two single and the game was tied.  Sox 4-4.  With one out, Atchison intentionally walked Wieters to put the double play in order.  Atchison was out and Albers was in.  Albers did get the double play, however he gave up 2 RBI singles first to give the O’s the lead.  Sox 4-6.

In the 9th, the O’s closer Jim Johnson took the mound.  The only shining star in this game is that we gave Johnson his first blown save of the season.  Papi got a single and with two outs, Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a game tying HR.  This was Salty’s 11th HR of the season and he is getting pretty good at 9th inning heroics.  Unfortunately, Alfredo Aceves had himself a tough 10th inning and gave the lead and the win to the O’s.  Aces gave up RBI singles to Paulino and Chavez.  There would be no heroes in the 10th and the Sox fell 6-8.
