The Red Sox had Jon Lester on the mound last night in hopes of taking the 2nd game of the series. Lester didn't pitch poorly, but he got in an early hole because of his own throwing error. The Sox would end up tying it up late, but this they didn't have the magic in extra innings.
Lester and Rogers both had the game tied until the 3rd inning when Lester gave up a run in one of the most comical ways ever. Rajai Davis hit a ball back to Lester and he made a horrible throw over to 1st base, so Davis went on trucking to 2nd and 3rd base. Victorino made an offline throw to 3rd base and Davis just kept on trucking home. It looked like a circus out there. Sox 0-1. In the 4th Lester gave up another run when he gave up an RBI double to DeRosa. Sox 0-2. Papi cut that lead in half in the 6th when he hit a solo HR. Sox 1-2. Unfortunately Lester gave that run right back in the 6th when he gave up an RBI double to Arencibia. Sox 1-3. Lester pitched into the 7th inning and didn't pitch poorly, but he made enough mistakes to be in line for the loss. Lester's line for the night was 6.1 IP, 114 pitches, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB and 3 Ks.
Brandon Workman came out in the 7th and finished out the inning. Workman also worked a scoreless 8th inning and then the Sox bats heading into the top of the 9th hoping for a miracle being down 1-3. Gomes walked and with 2 outs Napoli stepped to the plate. Napoli has been struggling something fierce, but he put a little of that in the rear view mirror when he hit a game tying 2 run homerun. Sox 3-3. Workman pitched a scoreless 9th and the Sox were on to extras. In the bottom of the 10th Workman got himself in a little bit of trouble. Workman gave up a leadoff double to the speedy Davis. With one out Davis was standing at 3rd base. The Sox intentionally walked Encarnacion, but then Workman gave up an RBI single to Lawrie and the Jays walked off for the win.
