Sox Blast Away in Late Night Win

The Red Sox had lost 3 in a row coming into this game and hoped it would not be 4 in a row.  The Sox were sending rookie Allen Webster to the mound vs. Iwakuma.  Webster wouldn't last through the 3rd inning, but the Sox bats and the bullpen picked the team up and gave them the win they needed.

Allen Webster struggled out of the gate and wouldn't be long for this game.  Webster put the Sox down early when he gave up a 2 run HR to Morales in the 1st.  Sox 0-2.  David Ortiz would cut that lead in half in the 2nd when he hit a solo HR to right.  Sox 1-2.  However Webster gave up a bases clearing double in the 2nd that would have the Mariners leading 5-1 after 2 innings.  The Sox looked like they were in store for their 4th loss in a row.  The Sox bats had something to say about that and went back to work in the 3rd inning.  Victorino hit a single, followed by a 2 run HR from Pedey, then Papi hit a double, followed by a 2 run HR from Napoli to have the game tied at 5-5.  The Sox ended the inning taking the lead 6-5 when Brock Holt hit a sac fly to score Salty.  However, Webster took the mound in the bottom of the 3rd and gave the lead right back to the Mariners.  Webster gave up another HR to Morales to tie the game and when he gave up another single, Farrell went out to get him.  Webster was out and Aceves was in the game.  Aceves RBI triple to Saunders to have the Mariners leading once again.  Sox 6-7.  Aceves got the 2 outs the team needed and seemed to winch when throwing one of his last pitches.  Aceves would not come back out again and Breslow would end up taking over in the 4th.  Aceves was suposed to be the long relief guy, so that seemed like bad news.

The Sox bats were able to tie the game again in the 4th inning when Pedey hit an RBI single.  Sox 7-7.  Breslow took the mound in the 4th and for the first time in the game a Sox pitcher had a scoreless inning.  In the 5th inning the Sox rewarded him by giving him the lead 8-7 when Jackie Bradley Jr hit his 2nd major league HR of the season.  Breslow pitched another scoreless inning in the 5th and even took the mound in the 6th.  Breslow was a real life saver for the Sox with how long he was able to pitch effectively in this game.  Breslow got one out in the 6th inning, but when he gave up a double he was pulled in favor of Andrew Bailey.  Bailey came to the mound and all of Red Sox Nation who was still awake collectively held their breath.  Bailey easily got the two outs he needed to end the 6th and also pitched a scoreless 7th inning.  If nothing else, that was a hugely positive thing about this outing.  Bailey was starting to look like himself again.  In the 8th inning the Sox bats got back to work.  Shane Victorino got into the HR party as well hitting a leadoff HR.  During the inning Papi had his 4th hit of the night, stole 2nd, then Salty was intentionally walked so that the Mariners could face Iggy.  Iggy made them pay by hitting an RBI single followed by an RBI single from Brock Holt.  Sox 11-7.  Tazawa took the mound in the bottom of the 8th and gave up an RBI groundout to Miller to have the Sox leading 11-8.  Uehara took the mound in the 9th and had a quick 1-2-3 inning to notch down his 6th save and a much needed win for the Sox.
