The Red Sox had Anthony Ranaudo on the mound and while he ended up giving up a couple of runs in the 1st inning, the Sox took the end and never looked back. The Sox scored 5 runs in the 4th inning and then 4 more runs in the 6th inning taking advantage of some poor pitching and some defensive mistakes from the Rays.
The Rays jumped out to an early lead when Ranaudo gave up 2 runs in the 1st inning. Ranaudo gave up and RBI double to Wil Myers and then a sac fly to Franklin. Sox 0-2. The Sox tied the game in the 2nd inning when Garin Cecchini hit a solo homerun and then Bogaerts hit a sac fly to score Brentz from 3rd. That was the first major league homerun for Cecchini. Sox 2-2. The Sox chased Odorizzi from the game in the 4th inning and then the Sox took the lead when Bogaerts hit a 2 run RBI single and then Nava hit an 2 run RBI double. The Sox scored the 5th and final run of the inning when Nava scored from 3rd on a wild pitch. Sox 7-2.
The Red Sox blew the game wide open in the 6th inning when they scored 4 more runs. Rays pitching completely fell apart and they allowed 3 runs to score by walking Castillo, Vazquez and Betts. The final run of the inning was scored when Castill came home by way of a passed ball. Sox 11-2. That inning was more about the Rays failure than the Sox success. Anthony Ranaudo pitched 7 strong innings and his pitching line for the night was 98 pitches, 7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB and 2 Ks. Drake Britton took pitched a scoreless 8th inning and then Edwin Escobar took the mound in the 9th. Escobar allowed a run when he gave an RBI double to Zobrist, but the Sox still easily coasted to victory. Sox 11-3.
