Sorry, there’s no sneaky way for C’s to use the “amnesty clause”

Ever since the first hints of an amnesty clause started spreading around the basketball world, people have been wondering how to use it.  I've already determined there's probably no way for the Celtics to use it, but some have wondered if there was a sneaky way around it.

The theory, basically, was to waive Paul Pierce, pay him the almost $50 million he's owed over the next few seasons, then re-sign him to the veteran's minimum to gain cap space.

I was never quite sure that was possible, but cap expert Larry Coon helped settle that today on Twitter.  That's his answer to my question up there.  In a nutshell, if you use the amnesty clause on Paul Pierce, you're "waiving" goodbye to him for the rest of his career.

…. ummm…. sorry for the bad pun there.  I'm a little loopy from the lockout.

So sorry C's fans.  I know we're all trying to figure out a way to manipulate the upcoming system to our benefit, but I'm not so sure that's going to happen.
