Buried near the bottom of Gary Washburn's 5 page basketball notes piece is a little paragraph that, as our boy MrTrpleDouble10 said to me when he pointed it out, seems like it could be the focus of an entire column.
Wyc Grousbeck, once portrayed as a hard-line owner willing to lose a season to overhaul the NBA's financial system, is not that guy anymore.
Co-owner Wyc Grousbeck, who has been representing the team in labor negotiations and is part of the league’s Board of Governors, has not been as active recently as he was a few years ago. There was a perception that Grousbeck was a hard-line owner willing to cancel the season, but he has backed off that stance.
That's interesting. So my question now is, was Wyc a hard-liner before and now he's backed off because he got enough of what he wanted? Or was Wyc never really as hard-line as we thought?
If he's in the first category, then I can respect a guy who saw a system that needed changing and then saw enough movement from the union to back off his stance.
Regardless, Wyc is now apparently not willing to lose a season over this. And that's a good thing, because we shouldn't have to.
