Sean McVay Past Relationships in Key in LA Rams’ Free Agency

NFL: New York Giants at Washington Redskins

<![CDATA[A Washington Redskins reunion of sorts could take place in Southern California.

Los Angeles Rams rookie head coach Sean McVay can't talk names in the team's free-agency quest, but he has let it be known that he thinks prior relationships are important in attracting free agents.

McVay and Rams general manager Les Snead told the Los Angeles Times that the team figures to be active in free agency. This despite the Rams having fewer than $20 million to spend on players.

Two free-agent wide receivers are DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon of the Washington Redskins, where McVay spent as offensive coordinator last season.

While talking in general terms, McVay did admit that he believed that a coach having a prior relationship with a player set to hit the open market could be an advantage.

“Well, I think any time that you’re able to be around players in general, you’d like to think that a relationship’s formed with any former player that you’ve worked with,” McVay said. “And how that affects the way that we’ll move forward, that’ll be determined.”

Garcon might be a more economical choice for the Rams, but L.A. definitely needs help because of a lack of a first-rounder available to the franchise because of the trade that helped the it draft quarterback Jared Goff with the first overall pick last year.

“We’re definitely planning to be active,” general manager Les Snead said of free agency. “But you gotta wait to see how the process goes and see who goes off the board, what they get paid and do they factor into your big picture.”

Perhaps, the bold talk about an active free agency lends itself to the possibility that the Rams may believe that help is coming from the Redskins in the WR department.
