Red Sox Feast On Yankee Pen to Win Opener

In a game featuring C.C. Sabathia vs. Josh Beckett you would not expect 16 runs to be scored, but that was what happened tonight at the Fens.  Pedro Martinez came out to throw out the first pitch and the faithful were ready for the old towne team to put the beat down on the Yanks.  Things did not start out as planned when Posada and Granderson hit back to back homers in the second.  Beckett struggled through 4 2/3 innings and seemed to be upset about getting squeezed on some pitches by the home plate ump.  He gave up 5 earned runs on the night.

The Red Sox offense was slow to get going against C.C. but they absolutely feasted on the Yankee bullpen.  Pedroia had two hits including a home run and Youk went 3-4 with two doubles and a triple.  Newcomers Cameron and Scutaro each had a 2-hit night.

Ramon S. Ramirez struggled out of the pen for the Sox but Oki, Bard and Paps all pitched well.  Oki got the win and Papelbon picked up his first save of the season.
