The Celtics were one stop away from getting a win tonight, but Evan Turner’s off balance shot rolled in at the buzzer, snuffing out Boston’s chance for the “W”. I was at the Garden tonight and this one was honestly a game the C’s would have been extremely lucky to have won. The Celts gave up 58 points in the paint (matador defense would be an understatement) and turned the ball over 17 times. Sure, Sully had a big game and their was some good play, but this was pretty much more of the same from the C’s. Sloppy play, missed free-throws and the overall failure to finish. Boston scored just 4 points in the final 5:23 and shot 9 of 27 for the quarter- blowing quite a few opportunities to put some distance between themselves and Philly. I will give credit where’s it due though. The Sixers held Boston at bay for most of this game, and Brett Brown did a nice job of getting his young team a win on the road. Philly feasted on the Celts’ lack of interior defense and Brown had his squad in attack mode for most of the night.
It was “Seats For Soldiers” night at the Garden, and the crowd of 18,000+ really, desperately wanted this win. We all stood up after Kris Humphries missed a jumper with 11 seconds left, expecting the Sixers to take a timeout. But Brown let his guys play. Evan Turner shook Jerryd Bayless with a nasty crossover and put up an awkward floater that fell in at the horn. Folks swore, kids shrieked and it was as if a giant foot came down from the rafters & kicked us all in our collective nuts. Sixers win 95-94. The C’s now have three days off before a 1pm meeting at home with the Orlando Magic on Sunday.
The Green:
- Monster game for Sully: 24 points & 17 rebounds in 35 minutes
- Another solid night from Humph as he played some great defense & notched 13 pts & 9 rebounds off the bench
The Gross:
- Sixers had a party in the paint, scoring 58 of their 95 points down low
- Phil Pressey struggled tonight. The rook was 1 for 7 from the field with 5 turnovers
