Rays Return the Favor and Get To Our Closer

Clay Buchholz took the mound for the Sox and probably had his best outing to date, however this time the Rays had the late inning rally against our closer and took the win.

Clay pitched well and left the game in line for a win.  Buchholz gave up his first run in the 4th inning with a Zobrist RBI ground out with Joyce on 3rd.  Clay didn’t give up his 2nd run until the 7th inning with an RBI single to Rhymes.  Sox 2-0.  His line for the day was 111 pitches, 7 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 B, 6 Ks.  In the bottom of the 7th, the Sox bats got Buchholz in line for the win.  Papi walked, Youk singled and then Gonzo hit his 4th HR of the season to give the Sox a 3-2 lead.

Buchholz was out of the game and Morales and Padilla pitched a scoreless 8th inning.  The Sox bats ended up loading the bases with 2 outs against the Rays, however Gonzo could not be a hero again and he ended up grounding out to end the inning.  Alfredo Aceves took the mound in the 9th for the Sox.  He had gotten his last 9 saves in a row, however he would not get his 10th save in a row.  Aces gave up a walk to Zobrist and then a bomb of a HR to Rodriguez to have the Rays jump out to a 4-3 lead.  The Sox bats would not have another walk off in them in the bottom of the 9th.  Rodney got himself a 1-2-3 save and the Rays left returning the favor and taking the series from the Sox.

The Sox are once again under 500.
