Painful to watch Robert Griffin III struggle

Hog Heaven is not ashamed to admit that we still like Robert Griffin III.

That 2012 season was the most exciting year of Redskins football in the half-century we watched the team. Like everyone else, we believed Washington had its answer at quarterback for the next 10 seasons; which may be true, but it’s not Robert.

We never bought into the conspiracy theories about deliberate ruination of the man’s career. Robert had a major hand in his own demise. If he became a little monster, we all — fans, coach, owner and the man himself — were the Frankensteins that created him.

Yet, we hoped a fresh start would be what the doctor ordered for RGIII to jump start his career.

Instead, he signed with the only franchise more woebegone than the Redskins in Daniel Snyder’s early ownership. And he signed for less than half the $16 million fifth-year option the ‘Skins signed him to in 2015 before un-signing and dumping him.

Now the Cleveland sports media is saying The Browns — after three starts by RG — should move on, while head coach and former Redskins OC Hue Jackson openly worries about the hit to his reputation if he goes 0-16 as a coach.

We have a coach like that on our staff. Fans won’t let him live it down.

Of course, the head coach of that winless Lions club is now the defensive coordinator of the 12-2 Dallas Cowboys. More proof that winning cures everything, whether you are Rod Marinelli, Joe Barry, or RGIII.
