Magnus Paajarvi avoids arbitration, signs one-year deal with Blues

The St. Louis Blues and Magnus Paajarvi have avoided arbitration. The two sides agreed to a one-year, one-way deal worth a reported $700,000.

This is a pretty interesting contract for both Paajarvi and the Blues. Paajarvi was reportedly considering a move to Sweden if he wasn’t given a contract with guaranteed NHL time and that’s exactly what he received in the one-way deal. For the Blues, it’s actually kind of surprising they granted the one-way contract wish considering that the team’s forward group seems to be pretty locked up.

Still, Doug Armstrong mentioned they want to give Paajarvi another look. That look comes relatively cheap at $700,000.

As Robby Fabbri continues to impress in the Blues development camp, the case for him to make the NHL roster grows stronger. This may lead to a training camp battle between Paajarvi, Fabbri and others as for who the team will use as a potential 13th forward. Realistically, Paajarvi needs to show a lot in training camp to be considered anything other than a lock for the press box.
