The Red Sox took a morning flight on Monday and then went immediately to the field for the game last night. The offense didn't look like they were jet lagged as they got to Lincecum early and never looked back. Jon Lester absolutely dominated the Giants lineup in route to his 11th win of the season.
The Sox offense struck first in the 2nd inning when they grabbed a few runs. The Sox had the bases loaded with no outs and took advantage. Middlebrooks hit an RBI sac fly, Nava scored on a balk by Lincecum and Victorino hit an RBI single to score Drew. Sox 3-0. In the 5th the Sox grabbed another run when Drew hit an RBI double to score Nava. Sox 4-0. In the 6th the Sox got Lincecum out of the game and grabbed their 5th run when Ellsbury scored on a wild pitch from Moscoco. Sox 5-0.
While the Sox offense just kept ticking along, Jon Lester was pitching himself a gem. Lester didn't give up a hit until the 4th inning and still hadn't given up a run as he came off the mound in the 8th. NESN showed Lester mouthing that he was "gonna finish this." Lester looked in complete control of this game. In the top of the 9th the Sox offense iced Lester a little bit when they stayed on the field and scored two more runs for the team. Salty hit an RBI double to score Pedey and then Nava hit an RBI single to bring Salty home. Sox 7-0. Lester came back out for the 9th, but with one out he ended up giving up 2 hits and Farrell came out to get him. Lester was nothing short of spectacular last night. His pitching line was 115 pitches, 8.1 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 2 BB and 3 Ks. Brandon Workman was in the game to get the final two outs of the inning. Workman continued to impress and struck out both batters he faced to notch the win for the Sox.
