An article over at ESPNBoston.com was about the Red Sox newest pitcher…John Lackey and his first impressions about Spring Training with the Red Sox. Lackey has spent his whole MLB career up until this off season…with one club and one club only…the LAA Angels. We in Red Sox Nation just know this ever too well.
Lackey talked about how there was a lot of pranking going on of the newbies and rookies when he was with the Angels. Here is the hazing that Lackey got:
“Scioscia posted his college grades on the bulletin board and made him take an algebra test because he’d gotten a failing grade, having skipped the final because he was about to be drafted.”
Lackey also noted that things were different in camp with the Red Sox. Lackey said that camp was more structured with the Sox…where there is something specific to be done every single day. He said that he has also been working with the trainers on the shoulder program as well…and likes it so far. Lackey also said that everyone doing conditioning testing was something that he didn’t do with the Angels:
“Hadn’t done it since minor-league camp 8 years ago,” he said. “I didn’t know anything about, but it wasn’t a big deal.”
And a hat tip to the Boston Globe…another difference in being in camp with the Red Sox, it includes the opportunity to fist bump with Joshua Patrick Beckett. Just sayin…
