Josh Tomlin wanted to give his dad a memorable performance at Wrigley Field on Friday night.
He did just that.
Tomlin battled an inconsistent strike zone from homeplate umpire John Hirschbeck to keep the Cubs hitters off balance the entire game. He was never in trouble as he pitched 4 2/3 giving up no runs on two hits and striking out one.
He threw 38 strikes on 58 pitches.
He left the game in the hands of Andrew Miller
