There are not a lot of things that New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey can’t do. “Hitting a Major League home run” is now off that list, as well.
Saturday, Harvey connected with a pitch from Arizona counterpart Patrick Corbin, sending the ball to the Party Porch in left-center field at Citi Field.
The ball barely made it over the wall when a fan–who looked to be in his 20’s–stretch his arm as far towards the field as he could and made the catch on the ball. Since the ball barely made it over the wall and the fan had reached so far to catch it, the play was subjected to a review. Fortunately, the home run was upheld.
Also fortunate: because of the review, there was a slow-motion replay of the fan’s awesome catch:
Matt Harvey hit his first career home run, because that's how @Mets pitchers do: http://t.co/XyMwIVnd8k pic.twitter.com/PIa6ByOMzU

The snag also drew the attention of famed ball hawk and catcher of Alex Rodriguez’s 3,000th hit, Zack Hample:
Nice catch by a @Mets fan on Matt Harvey’s 1st @MLB home run! I wonder what he’s going to do with the ball and what he might get for it…

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsSince it was Harvey’s first career home run, the fan had to make two decisions: 1) Will he give it back to the Mets pitcher? 2) If he does, what will he ask for in return?
According to Andrew Harts, a Mets social media guru, the fan who caught the ball did indeed choose to give it back to Harvey.
Spoke w/ fan who caught Harvey’s HR ball. Traded it for game used Harvey bat and 4 tickets for him & friends to another game w/ BP passes. — Andrew Harts (@AndrewHarts) July 11, 2015

Harvey said he plans on giving his dad the HR ball. His dad also has Harvey’s first career W ball so he’s got himself a nice collection.
