The Sox may not have made the post season, but the awards keep piling up in the off season. The Silver Slugger Awards were announced today and three Sox players came away with the prize: Adrian Gonzalez, David Ortiz and Jacoby Ellsbury. The Silver Slugger awards the player with the best offense at each position.
This is the first time that Ellsbury and Gonzalez has received the award. Ellsbury had a tremendous breakout season this year and is being rewarded kindly for it. I imagine that the Sox are going to make sure they get no where near an artibration hearing with Ellsbury this year since he’d take the cake. Gonzalez has always had great offensive numbers, however in the NL he was always in competition with someone named Albert Pujols. However, this is the 5th time that Papi has come away with the award. That is the most amount of Silver Sluggers ever for a DH. Way to go Papi!
