Drew Magary Trolling Cardinals Fans on Deadspin – Again

miniponypettingzooandymckenna1

The first preseason game hasn’t even been played, but Deadspin’s Drew Magary is out with his first Cardinals flame-column of the year.

Bob Nightengale of the USA Today wrote a puff piece on the Cardinals “boring” way.

He compared the Cardinals to the San Antonio Spurs. John Mozeliak said about his team “vanilla are our colored sprinkles”. Players are lauded for their refusal to talk shit to opponents. In short – nothing you haven’t heard before in this past decade plus run of success.

Also, what an odd phrase. Vanilla are our colored sprinkles. What does that mean?

Anyway…

It all rubs people the wrong way. Mr. Magary knows this, so he wrote the takedown piece. He’s been working Cardinals fans over for page views for at least a couple of seasons now and after being posted 53 minutes ago, it’s already garnered 23K+ views.

People – relax.

Embrace the hate.

Hell, Mr. Magary isn’t even hating on the Cardinals this time, per se. He’s hating on the fact that people in reputable publications like USA Today are writing such dramatic puff pieces on the Cardinals when they’re not without their faults.

This shouldn’t take away from the fact that actual baseball games start this PM. Not even the pot shots at St. Louis.

This, too, shall pass. And come October, when the Cardinals are (again) in the playoffs and the press is (again) writing about the Cardinal Way, Mr. Magary will be back.

If each time you get a little less worked up about the posts, pretty soon you’ll forget they’re even happening.

And truthfully? It’s better to be talked about than forgotten. Just ask a Rams fan.

UPDATE:

Looks like we’re going to take the bait after all and make this into a thing.
