It was reported today that during an interview Cliff Lee said that the Yankees were probably his third choice behind the Phillies and Rangers. He said part of his reasoning was that he felt the Red Sox got stronger with their off season moves and the Yankees seemed to be getting older. Very very interesting. So…Lee might have been more interested in the Yanks if he didn’t see the Sox sign both AGonz and Crawford. Hmm. That’s gotta sting to Yanks fans…who had him all but signed after the Rangers sent them packing last year.
“Texas probably finished second to be honest with you,” said Lee, who signed a deal worth five years, $120 million with the Phillies in the offseason. “Just as far as the quality of the team and the chance to win a World Series ring, I think they’re a better team. That’s just my opinion. The Yankees can do anything at any moment to improve and they’re not afraid to go do things. That was part of the decision making process too, but I felt like with what the Red Sox had done and it seems like some of the Yankee guys are getting older, but I liked the Rangers.”
