Jon Lester and the Red Sox took the mound in Toronto in hopes of a win and getting to .500 for the season. Lester started out shaky and gave up 3 runs in the first inning. Lester also almost got into a screaming match with the umpire about the strike zone until Jarrod Saltalamacchia put his tall self in the way and settled things down. Lester came out seemingly settled down. The Red Sox bats came out and for a brief moment in the 5th gave him a 4-3 lead with a 2 run HR from Gonzalez. Lester came out in the bottom of the 5th and gave up a single HR to Jose Bautista to tie the game up. In the 6th, Lester gave up another solo HR to Arencibia. That was the night for Lester with a line of 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 BB, 5 Ks. All in all…not the best night for Jon Lester. Adrian Gonzalez had another HR in the 9th. He’s really showing that hitting for power we all knew he had.
However the HRs from Gonzo and Papi were not enough. In the 10th inning, Rajai Davis got a single, stole second base on a pitch out and then proceeded to steal third base. With one out, the Jays scored the winning run on a sac fly to the outfield.
Red Sox 6 Toronto 7 BOXSCORE
