If Buffalo Bills fans thought they had to wait until the season began to see some of new head coach Rex Ryan’s new personality, they probably were delighted to see Ryan enter Lucas Oil Stadium (where the NFL Combine is being held) with a white Thurman Thomas jersey on.
After being in the playoff race but falling short in 2014, the Bills take on a new attitude with a new head coach and a new quarterback who has yet to be determined. After performing admirably last season, Kyle Orton called it quits when the season ended and retired to conclude his 10-year NFL career.
But the Bills are spearheaded with their defense, one that ranked fourth in the NFL last season in yards per game. With Ryan’s exotic blitz packages and schemes, it’s a possibly they jump from fourth to first with the talent they have on that side of the football.
The offense has some questions to answer, mainly at filling in their quarterback position and replacing C.J. Spiller, who is a free agent and is unlikely to return to the team. Whoever they choose at quaterback will have a primary weapon on the outside in Sammy Watkins, their rookie wide receiver who was drafted fourth overall in 2014 and finished his rookie campaign with just under 1,000 yards and 65 receptions.
The Buffalo Bills are paired up with the AFC South and the NFC East with one game each against the AFC North and the AFC West. The Bills have their obvious six matchups with the defending Super Bowl champions New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins and Ryan’s former team the New York Jets.
At home, the Bills host the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bills travel to Tennessee, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Kansas City. The Bills will also be traveling to London for an International Series game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
