Comedy troupe Broken Lizard has announced that NHL phenom Steven Stamkos will join the cast of the long-awaited sequel to the stoner cult classic “Supoertroopers.”
Longtime writer and director of the troupe Jay Chandrasekhar contacted Stamkos for a bit role, but was impressed with Stamkos’s natural ability in front of the camera.
“He just has this ease with the camera and has a comedic timing that even he’s hardly aware of. We scrapped the original script on a suggestion by Stammer. See, we originally had the Supertroopers stuck as the only source of law enforcement in Tampa Bay after things went awry at a police convention. Then stammer said to us, ‘Dude, you guys just, like, took the plot of the ‘Reno 911!’ and put it in Tampa and not Miami.’ He saved us a lot of embarrassment because of that.”
When asked about his sudden career change, Stamkos seemed excited. “I’m really excited to be a part of this project. It’s really exciting to be part of this project”, said the Tampa Bay Lightning center. “Jay says I can’t say exactly what my role will be—whether it’s a criminal, a bigger role, or the guy who betrays the group just to be a dick. But I can tell you that growing a bitchen’ stache is crucial to the role and my character.”
Will the former 50 goal scorer hang up his skates for the bright lights of Hollywood? Stamkos says it’s unlikely. The center said, “I’m way too good at hockey to quit now. This is more for something to do in the off-season. You can only train and workout so much. You need to do something constructive or else you’ll go nuts.”
