Boston Bruins tradable assets

Boston Bruins tradable assets
With the trade deadline three weeks away, people have begun to talk about which players can be traded to get some talent and which players can not. I think it’s a good argument, especially when it comes to players like Adam McQuaid and Mark Stuart, but there are some people out there that believe guys like Tuukka Rask can be moved.

So with the trade deadline approaching, it’s time to take a look at what/who the Bruins have that can be moved for a puck moving defenseman (#1 need) or depth at the forward position. People may agree with this list or they may not, but I want to hear from you on the Bruins movable assets.

After the jump… we go over the Bruins assets.

Boston Bruins tradable assetsAdam McQuaid

Contract: $575K for 2010-2011 and $575K for 2011-2012

Synopsis of Talent: 6’5″, 209lbs. He’s a physical defenseman that doesn’t mind getting dirty in the corner or throwing down the gloves to prove a point. He’s a young talent, so he’s still prone to growing mistakes. Good 3rd line defenseman who can provide depth for a team making a cup run.

Season stats: 39GP, 0G, 7A, 7P, +18, 53 hits, 68 blocked shots, 5 giveaways, 3 takeaways

Boston Bruins tradable assets Mark Stuart

Contract: $1,675,000 for 2010-2011 then UFA status

Synopsis of Talent: Stuart and McQuaid are virtually the same player, which is why Stuart hasn’t played in about two weeks after coming back from injury. He’s a tough, gritty stay at home defenseman. Stuart is excellent on the penalty kill and is a good second to third pairing d-man. Little to no offensive firepower.

Season stats: 29GP, 1G, 3A, 4P, +6, 50 hits, 49 blocked shots, 13 giveaways, 4 takeaways

Boston Bruins tradable assetsAndrew Ference

Contract: $2.25M for 2010-2011, $2.25M for 2011-2012 and $2.25M for 2012-2013, then UFA

Synopsis of Talent: Good defenseman with a great defensive mind. Good skater who can log a lot of minutes for a team. Could be considered risky based on previous health issues. Has missed long stretches of time in the past. Not very talented offensively.

Season stats: 50GP, 2G, 7A, 9P, +19, 51 hits, 63 blocked shots, 22 giveaways, 4 takeaways

Boston Bruins tradable assets Zach Hamill

Contract: $1,316,667 for 2010-2011 then RFA status

Synopsis of Talent: Good play making abilities. Small (5’11”, 180lbs) for an NHL ready center. Can play good defensively when needed. Still developing in the AHL.

Season Stats (AHL): 44GP, 3G, 25A, 28P, +4 (please note: has played 1 NHL game this season)

Boston Bruins tradable assetsMichael Ryder

Contract: $4M for 2010-2011 then UFA status

Synopsis of Talent: Can score goals, is strictly an offensive winger to the point where he could be a liability. Good in the offensive zone. Very inconsistent (and maybe even lazy). Has a good, hard shot. Contract is not indicative of play. Second to third line winger on most teams.

Season Stats: 53GP, 14G, 15A, 29P, -5, 17 giveaways, 16 takeaways, 7 power play goals, 11 points on the power play
