St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong will have some help when he’s making roster decisions. The club announced that they have signed Martin Brodeur to a three-year deal to be the team’s Assistant General Manager. While his duties haven’t been publicly outlined, it’s safe to assume he’ll weigh in on the team’s handling of their free agents as well as any future trades.

There’s really no need to analyze this move too deeply. Brodeur and his enormous hockey knowledge are a huge asset for the Blues. All signs pointed to Brodeur returning to his first love, the New Jersey Devils, but that appeared to take an abrupt turn after some major front office changes. Brodeur has made it known he still envisions himself in New Jersey, but he and his new three-year deal indicate that it might be a bit before he finds a position or a situation with the Devils he likes.

Brodeur is a great addition to the front office and the Blues should be thrilled to keep him around the team.
