Bernie Carbo’s pinch hit homer in the 1975 World Series became more impressive when you know the state he was in.
“I probably smoked two joints, drank about three or four beers, got to the ballpark, took some [amphetamines], took a pain pill, drank a cup of coffee, chewed some tobacco, had a cigarette, and got up to the plate and hit,’’ Carbo said.
If I tried that I wouldn’t be able to hit a beach ball off of a tee.
Carbo has turned his life around and has been drug and alcohol free for 15 years.
