The word came out today that Josh Beckett was medically cleared today and returned to baseball activities. However, he was skipped for his start today against the Phillies. He will throw a simulated session in the bullpen tomorrow and then be scheduled to start on Tuesday. Phew…glad to hear Beckett seems fine and back to normal. As I said a couple of days ago, concussions scare the bejesus out of me. Symptoms often don’t show up for a couple of days. I watched the game where Jason Bay got his concussion last year. He got us…said his head hurt, but said it was fine. Next day, he said he was fine again and played in the game. Then…on the plane ride home he suddenly started showing dizziness and vertigo symptoms and before he knew it…was out for the season. Obviously the severity of Jason and Josh’s head injury is like comparing apples and oranges, but still…how concussions can linger always makes me nervous.
It seems like Josh’s snarky sense of humor has returned as well. When Josh came out on the field with a white t-shirt on which said “Don’t Hit Me” and then gave Ino a crossing guard vest and a bright hat. If he only he took the joke up one notch…and brought orange cones out and placed them around him.
And this video…well, it made me chuckle. It shows Josh throwing…and when he is done, Curt Young comes over and rubs Josh’s bumped head.
