As if bestowing the moniker “baseball’s best fans” upon themselves wasn’t bad enough, St. Louis Cardinals faithful are now making up world records.
And to make matters worse…they’ve roped in the folks at Guinness to help.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsSaturday, during the Redbirds extra-inning loss to the Detroit Tigers, 4296 fans at Busch Stadium simultaneously took a selfie (ugh!), besting the old record of 2997. How the folks at Guinness keep track of such things? I really don’t know.
Thankfully, Joey Chestnut, the eight-time defending Nathan’s Famous National Hot Dog Eating Contest Champion, was in the Gateway City to make sure it all went down smoothly.
“I know I hold the contest record for downing the most hot dogs, and the record for most Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Contest championships, but it was really cool to be a part of a Guinness Wolrd Records official attempt,” Chestnut said. “So many fans jumped on board. I hope they all upload their selfies to www.NathansSelfie.com to be entered into the Original Selfie Sweepstakes that starts on Monday.”
Oh….wait. This thing was just a stunt to promote a dumb contest by a hot dog company? Here I thought a bunch of Cardinals fans got together to reach a common goal.
Sorry, gang.
But, hey, it just goes to show you that if you’ve got the money to spend…ANYTHING can be a world record!
